Pattern Drafting for Empire Dressing
with Susan Spencer

This presentation is a condensation of our weekend workshop on pattern drafting for Empire styles into a lecture-demo format. Making an Empire dress that really fits can be difficult; making one that is flattering can be nigh on impossible! We will cover how to make a set of basic pattern pieces ("slopers") for an Empire dress that fits exactly: to ensure best fit, we begin from a modern, dart-fit shell pattern and work back to an accurate Regency model with period construction lines and techniques. We'll then discuss how to draft several different period garments and variations of garments from these basic slopers. This is the perfect course for the Regency enthusiast frustrated by the small range of period garment patterns available commercially.

This presentation is 75 minutes long -- it is assumed that 15 minutes' worth of questions will follow the presentation. A flipchart is required for this presentation.

Our fees for presentations are set on a variable scale, which is dependent upon the individual situation, the sponsor, and the expected audience. We offer a system of offsets in situations where we are able to set up as merchants, and in addition, we offer a co-marketing and revenue sharing program for museums, historic sites, and not-for-profit groups. Please contact us for details, and to discuss your individual occasion and requirements.
