Hand Repairs for the Man in the Field with Susan Spencer

This course is specially designed for those fellows who have found themselves rendered helpless in the field by the loss of a button, the tear of a piece of clothing, or the singe from a spark. We'll cover the most basic of basics, including the effective methods of threading a needle and how to use a needle threader, right through reattaching buttons, simple mending for tears and burns (and how they differ), hemming and finishing raw edges so they don't fray, as well as some simple construction stitches just in case! If you've never held a needle before, or even if you have, this course is designed to give you the tools to rescue yourself when faced with a fabric-based emergency. Kit includes needles, thread, and fabric. Participants should bring scissors suitable for cutting thread. Please remember that you will be doing fine work, so if you require glasses for reading, you will undoubtedly need them for sewing.
