Pattern
Drafting - Flat Pattern Method
with Susan Spencer
Learn to draft your own patterns and change
existing patterns to suit yourself! This is the perfect course
for those who find commercial patterns not a good fit or not
to their liking, as well as those concerned with duplicating
garments from photographic, engraved, or original garment source
material. Using the flat pattern method, participants will
create their own personal set of pattern pieces (slopers), upon
which they will learn to draft all of the basic types of women's
garments as well as many of the specialized pieces used in historical
and fantasy costuming. Textbook (supplied by us) is required
for the course; participants should bring corrugated cardboard,
81/2" x 11" plain white paper, markers, scissors, tape,
and a thumbtack; for the last day of the course, a sewing machine,
a fitting shell pattern in your size, four sheets of bristol
board, 4 metres muslin or scrap fabric, thread, and pins are
needed. Competency in the operation
of a sewing machine is required for this course.
